Beyond Salagua Towards Manzanillo
Colima
Bay Cafe
Just past Portofino is the Colima Bay Cafe. This was once part
of the Carlos and Charlie's it is still owned and operated by the original manger
and owner. The food is very good Mexican style and the service is professional.
A fun place and late at night the DJ cranks up the volume so if you want to go
for conversation go early or even better go for lunch. This place is right on
the beach and cooled by ocean breezes a perfect place for a great Mexican lunch.
Next door to the Colima Bay Cafe is the Intento Galleria, owned by Maria Corona,
who also owns the restaurant. The gallery features the works of many local, regional
and national Mexican artists.

La

Tortas - the best in Manzanillo, and they deliver!

Portofino
Portofino is in it's new location. The restaurant is very sleek
and when approaching it look for the wave shaped bamboo structure on the front
of the modern white cement building. The
food here is arguably the best and most creative of the higher end restaurants
in town. The chef is the the owner's son and he is creating some very sophisticated
food here. For instance there is an excellent Thai salad on the menu and a tasty
baby lettuce and goat cheese salad. For entrees all the pasta is good and the
pizza is the best in town. Try the spice encrusted Dorado - a beautiful spice
encrusted filet of fish over a bed of spinach and small pieces of grapefruit topped
with a light citrus sauce. Have
an espresso and tiramisu at the end of your meal and you might forget you are
in Mexico and think you are in Italy dining on Mediterranean. |
Toscana
Boulevard Miguel de La Madrid 3177
Telephone 333-2515
Michele and Jean F. Laroche came to Manzanilllo from France almost 20 years ago
and opened up Willys. Willy's quickly became the restaurant of choice
for locals and tourists celebrating special nights out. It was located on the
beach with great night-time views of the city of Manzanillo, and featured French
food with special attention to the freshest seafood. Willy's was the best restaurant
Manzanillo had to offer until it was destroyed by a huge wave in the spring of
2000.
Two years ago
Michele and Jean opened Toscana, just a mile up the beach. The restaurant
is beautiful and features Italian food. The menu from Willy's is now avaiable
at Toscana. Open 7 nights a week. Reservations advised, especially in the winter
months.

This is a great place to go for a late afternoon or sunset drink. For the past
